Wayland Cultural Council Announces Grant Recipients

The Wayland Cultural Council is pleased to announce it has awarded $5,415 to fund 10 cultural and arts projects for the benefit of the local community. After reviewing 25 applications, awards were granted to the following organizations and projects:

  • 10th Annual Community Concert Series hosted by Wayland Council on Aging at the Town Building
  • Connect Program at Wayland High School for COVID Art Installation/Mural
  • Delvena Theater Company for a performance of “Louisa’s Girls” at the Wayland Council on Aging
  • Discovery Museum for its “Open Door Connections” program
  • Diane Wong and the Racial Justice Collaborative for the “Each One, Teach One Saturday Series”
  • “Making Autobiographic Comics” youth workshop with Jonathan Todd at the Wayland Free Public Library
  • Musicians of the Old Post Road for Virtual Concert: Forgotten Voices
  • Wayland Archaeology Lab for its inventory and curation project
  • Wayland Free Public Library to support the “Wayland Reads” program
  • W Gallery to support online programming

This year’s awardees showed great creativity in adapting their projects to the constraints of the COVID-19 pandemic while expanding access to rich cultural experiences in the community.

The Wayland Cultural Council is one of 329 Local Cultural Councils (LCCs) serving 351 towns across the Commonwealth as part of the Massachusetts Cultural Council’s LCC program. Through a grant process, the Council funds community-based projects in the arts, sciences, and humanities. It is known as the largest grassroots cultural funding network in the nation.

Members of the council are appointed by the Board of Selectman and currently include Wayland residents Sean Ahern, Rebecca Ahmed, Katy Allen, Andrea Blesso, Ashley Fuller, Adam Gutbezahl, Richard Lee, Lynne Lipcon, Jane Purser, Rachel Sideman-Kurtz, Kathy Heppner Trogolo and Susan Warren.
