ADULT SERVICES

  • New!  Schedule Your Hold Pickups Online. We just got some great new software that will make pickups easier for everyone.  When you get the email saying your hold has come in, just click on the link below our address.    You can then select the day and time you want to make your pickup.  We’ll have a corresponding calendar on our end that’ll tell us your choice.  Of course, we’ll still call you if you don’t use email notification.
  • Reopening, Step 2: Expanded Hours. As of Monday, July 13, you can pick up, return, and call us the entire day until 8:00 p.m. on weekdays and 10-1 on Saturdays.  What’s more, you can now request items from other libraries.  We still can’t open to the public or take donations.  The journey of 1,000 miles begins with a single step–or two.
  • Museum Passes (Some, Anyway) Available. Drumlin Farm, Garden in the Woods, the Zoos—basically, the outdoor places.  Check the venue’s website to learn the current policy.  For technical reasons, we still have to keep our reservation system closed, but you can reserve a pass by calling us 9-8 p.m. during the week and 10-1 on Saturdays.  We’ll arrange a pickup time with you.  Then you’ll have somewhere to go!
  • Jay Michaels, Harp and Viola da Gamba. Join us on Facebook live for a performance by this talented performer of the harp and other plucked and bowed instruments.  Specializing in Medieval, Renaissance, and Baroque, as well as Celtic, music, Jay has also arranged modern compositions for the harp by The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, and Sting.  This concert is supported in part by a grant from the Wayland Cultural Council, a local agency which is supported by the Mass Cultural Council, a state agency.  Sunday, July 19 at 3:00 p.m.
  • Intention Setting Workshop. This is a disorienting time.  Nothing is normal and yet we try to get as close to normal as possible.  There is so much push and pull between what we feel we should be doing, what we are called to be doing, and what we are or aren’t able to do.  Join life coach and Wayland resident Gabriella Feingold to set intentions–to ask ourselves who we want to be.  Sign up here or through our home page’s Events calendar to receive the Zoom info via email.  Monday, July 20 at 7:30 p.m.
  • A Powerful Community Reading: Watch It Now. On July 2 of this year, the Library gathered thirty-seven people–most (but not all) of them from Wayland–for a group reading via Zoom of Frederick Douglass’ stirring 1852 speech, “What, to the Slave, is the Fourth of July?”  Another twenty-five people joined simply to listen.  The result was a moving occasion for everyone involved.  Fortunately, it was recorded by WayCam and is now online through our blog so that you, too, can be part of that experience.
  • Wowbrary for Browsing. One of the pleasures that library users are missing most acutely right now is that of wandering through the collection, panning for library gold.  Until we can offer that experience again, we have Wowbrary, a weekly email that lists all the latest additions to our holdings.  It’s insider info that’ll let you get a top spot on the waiting list, with every entry linked to our catalog.  To sign up, go to our home page and scroll down till you see the Wowbrary logo, or just click here.  It’s easy, free, and almost like being back in the stacks.
