Superintendent’s Message to School families on COVID-19

Dear Families:

I wanted to update you on our response to the evolving situation related to COVID-19.

The Massachusetts Department of Public Health continues to indicate that the threat of transmission of COVID-19 is low. Following the governor’s direction, we have cancelled all international trips for the remainder of the year. At this time, following the Wayland Health Department’s guidance, we are going forward with our plans for in-country trips, including the 8th grade trip to Washington DC. We will also continue to hold large Wayland Public School gatherings. If the Health Department changes their guidance related to those events, we will follow that guidance and update you accordingly.

I wanted to share with you the Wayland Health Department’s decision making process in response to situations in which someone may have traveled to Level 3 countries or possibly been exposed to people who have shown Coronavirus symptoms. These are the practices that our school nurses are following as situations arise. I have attached the document that describes this process below.

I want to reassure you that in all of our decisions we put the health and safety of our children and staff first. We are working closely with the Town’s Health Department to respond to this evolving situation. Please feel to contact the Public Health Nurse, Ruth Mori, RN, (508-358-3617, rmori@wayland.ma.us) or me with any questions.

Thank you.

Sincerely,

Arthur Unobskey, Ed.D., Superintendent of Schools
