ADULT PROGRAMS

  • Ukulele Club Holiday Edition. The Wayland Ukulele Club is for any adult (ages 16+) who wants to have fun with music.  All skill levels are welcome.  We’ll learn non-denominational holiday tunes and perform them around town at venues to be determined.  BYOU and music stand.  The Library has four ukes available to borrow for three weeks at a time, but can’t guarantee availability.  Other local libraries lending ukuleles include Framingham, Weston and Wellesley.  Rehearsals: Tuesday, November 26, and Wednesday, December 4 at 7:30 p.m.
  • The Great Presenters: The Magic of Silk Painting. Longtime silk artist Kathy Defina speaks on the rich history of silk painting and its growth in the wearable art industry.  Tuesday, December 3 at 7:30 p.m.
  • Wanted: Art for Our Exhibition Spaces in January. Do you have work you’d like to show?  Or know someone who does?  Our foyer can accommodate a small number of pieces and the Raytheon Room has ample display space.  For information or an application, contact Elizabeth Bradley at the Library.

BOOK GROUPS

  • Evening. Radio Free Vermont by Bill McKibben.  Monday, December 2 at 7 p.m.
  • Non-Fiction. Never Caught by Erica Armstrong Dunbar.  Wednesday, December 11 at 1 p.m.
  • Dystopian/Sci-Fi. Ancillary Justice by Ann Leckie.  Wednesday, December 11 at 7 p.m. in the mezzanine.
  • Cookbook Club. It’s our annual potluck!  No book involved—just make a recipe and bring it to share. Thursday, December 12 at 6 p.m.
  • Noon. Behold the Dreamers by Imbolo Mbue.  Friday, December 13.

BABY AND PRE-SCHOOL PROGRAMS

  • Weekly Storytimes
    • Mother Goose Time (Infants-2.5 years) Tuesdays, Nov. 19, Dec. 3, 10, 17 and 24 at 10:30 a.m.
    • StoryVine (2.5 -5 years) Thursdays, Nov. 21, Dec. 12 and 26 at 10:30 a.m.
  • Sing-along with Jeannie Mack. Jeannie Mack will perform all kinds of fun, bounce-around, sing-along songs for young children. Plenty of opportunity for audience participation! For babies, toddlers, and preschoolers with caregiver. Thursday, December 5, at 10:30 a.m.
  • Prewalkers Lapsit. Together we will learn fun and interactive ways to promote early brain development. Our group includes soft songs and lap bounces, which encourage early communication. Facilitated by Beverly Mobilia of Community Partnerships for Children and Families. For ages newborn to 1 year, or pre-walkers, with caregiver. Wednesday, Nov. 20, Dec. 4 and 18, 11:30-12 p.m.
  • Family Storytime & Crafts. Join Ms. Laura for stories, songs, and rhymes! After storytime we will make crafts. For babies to age 5, with caregiver. Saturday, November 23, 10:30-11:30 a.m.
  • Zumba. Rhythm and dance program for children ages 2.5 to 4 years old. Led by Hayley Chizinksy of H2K Happy Healthy Kids Fitness Studio. Tuesday, November 26, 10:30-11:00 a.m.
  • Storytime with Corbyn. Children will listen to dog stories and have a special canine visitor!  Corbyn, a beautiful Samoyed, and his owner Helen will join us. For ages 3 and up. Thursday, December 19, 10:30 a.m.

SCHOOL-AGE PROGRAMS

  • Drop-in Thanksgiving Crafts. Get crafty and make decorations for the Thanksgiving table! For ages 4 and up. Wednesday, November 27, 3:00-4:30 p.m.
  • 6th Grade Parent/Child Book Group. This book discussion group is for 6th graders with a parent. December’s book is Scar Island by Dan Gemeinhart. Need a copy? Come to the Children’s Room and check one out. Wednesday, Dec. 4, 7:00-8:00 p.m. We will meet in the Teen Loft.
  • Lego Club. Children will make fabulous creations out of legos. This month’s theme: Magical Kingdoms! For ages 5 and up. Wednesday, December 4, 3:00-4:00 p.m.

FOR TEENS

  • YA Author talk: Judith Pratt. Judith Pratt will read from her latest novel, Siljeea MagicFor teens and adults. Friday, November 22, 4 p.m.

FOR FAMILIES

  • Author Talk: Monkey King in USA. Sociologist, author, and playwright Xi Zhang will present a reading (with cast members) of her play for kids 7-12 about the adventures of a classic trickster from Chinese folklore.  Saturday, November 23 at 2 p.m.
  • Family Holiday Singalong with David Polansky. As a part of the Wayland Center Holiday Open House, local musician David Polansky will lead a Family Holiday Singalong for all ages upstairs in the round room of the Library.  In addition to vocals, Polansky will play the keyboard and the trumpet.  Come and sing your favorite holiday songs and learn some new ones.  Refreshments will be served.  This event is sponsored by the Friends of the Wayland Public Library.  Sunday, December 8 from 3 to 3:45 p.m.
