ADULT PROGRAMS

  • Help Shape the Library’s Future. To qualify for essential funds from the state, we have to submit a Strategic Plan every five years. An integral part of crafting that plan is learning what library patrons want from us as we make the most of our venerable space. Please take just a few minutes to complete our online survey (online here) or pick up a paper copy at the library before the end of the month. Thanks!
  • Introduction to Jewish Genealogy. Presenter Carol Clingan has traced her grandparents’ families back to the early 19th century in the former Soviet Union, and has done extensive research for other relatives and friends. She is the Research Projects Coordinator of the Jewish Genealogical Society of Greater Boston, and has been a member of the Board for 17 years. Sunday, April 14 at 2 p.m.
  • Ask the Ornithologist. Where’s the best place for birding in Wayland? What kinds of birds will I see? How can I attract birds to my yard? What seed should I put out? Ornithologist (and Wayland Conservation Commission Land Manager) Brian Harris will give a brief presentation on birding in Wayland, showcasing his photography. Then he’ll answer all those questions, and any others you might have. Wednesday, April 17 at 7:30 p.m.
  • Craft a Pair of Earrings. Norma Radoff will help you design your own earrings using pearls, stones, glass beads and more! Space is limited and registration is required. Go to “Events” on our website or call the library to sign up. Saturday, April 20 at 2 p.m.
  • Massachusetts Leaders in the Suffrage Movement. Author of Massachusetts in the Woman Suffrage Movement, Barbara Berenson tells the story of the national suffrage movement, giving this state’s suffragists their due. Long before the Civil War, Lucy Stone and other abolitionists laid the foundation for the next generation of suffragists to triumph over tradition. Wednesday, April 24 at 7 p.m.
  • Learn about Pollinators and Make a Mason Bee Hotel. Wayland resident Kaat Vander Straeten will teach us about pollination from the point of view of the insects, the flowers, the farmer, and the 100% of our population that gets to eat! Then we’ll construct hotels for the solitary, but busy, mason bee, and learn about this fascinating species as we do. Thursday, April 25 at 7:30 p.m.

BABY AND PRE-SCHOOL PROGRAMS

  • Weekly Storytimes
    • Mother Goose Time (Infants-2.5 years) Tuesdays, April 16 and 23 at 10:30 a.m.
    • StoryVine (2.5 -5 years) Thursday, April 11 at 10:30 a.m.
  • Inclusive Playgroup: Stories, Songs, and Sign. This interactive, inclusive music and literacy group is for young children at all levels of communication and ability. Facilitated by Beverly Mobilia of Wayland Community Partnerships for Children and Families. For ages newborn to 3 years. Wednesday, April 24 at 11:30-12:15 p.m.
  • Brain Building Storytime. Storytime, parachute play, and brain building activity. Program led by Beverly Mobilia of Wayland Community Partnerships for Children and Families. For ages 2 to 5, with parent/caregiver. Wednesday, April 17 at 11:15 a.m.-12:00 p.m.
  • Sensory Storytime. Children will sing songs, listen to stories, and make a simple craft. If your child has difficulty sitting through our other story times, this program might be for you. For ages 2 and up, with caregiver. Saturday, April 20, 11:00-11:30 am.
  • Storytime with Corbyn the Dog. Children will listen to dog stories and have a chance to visit with Corbyn, a beautiful Samoyed. Corbyn (with her owner Helen) has been certified as a therapy dog by Pets and People Foundation. For ages 3 and up. Thursday, April 25 at 10:30 a.m.
  • Zumba. Rhythm and dance program led by Hayley Chizinksy of H2K Happy Healthy Kids Fitness Studio. For ages 2.5 to 4 years. Tuesday, April 30 at 10:30 a.m.

SCHOOL-AGE PROGRAMS

  • Let’s Build: Strongest Catapult. Let’s Build is a hands-on building workshop for kids in grades 3-5. Each month will feature a different building challenge. This month’s challenge is to build the strongest catapult. For kids in grades 3-5. Let’s Build workshops are run by Wayland High School Seniors Eileen Chau and Julia Treese. Wednesday, April 24, 3:00-4:30 p.m.
  • Parent/Child Book Group. This book discussion group is for 4th and 5th graders with a parent. April’s book is The Goldfish Boy by Lisa Thompson. We will also choose the book for next month. For 4th and 5th graders with a parent. Wednesday, April 24, 7:00-8:00 p.m.

FAMILY PROGRAMS

  • Teddy Bear Picnic. Join us for stories, snacks, and fun at a donation event and teddy bear storytime. This event is hosted by the Wayland Children and Parent Association and is being held in support of the nonprofit organization Project Smile. Children can bring a stuffed animal in excellent condition to donate to Project Smile. For the whole family. Storytime for babies to age 5. Saturday, April 27, 10:30-11:30 a.m.

Vacation Week Specials:

  • Creature Teachers: Nature in Your Backyard. Educator Richard Roth from Creature Teachers will teach children about the animals that live in New England. He will bring several live animals to his program, possibly including an opossum, a woodchuck, a porcupine, and a snapping turtle. For ages 3 and up, with caregiver. Tuesday, April 16, 2:00-3:00 p.m.
  • Drop-in Crafts: Spring Fling. Children are invited to make colorful and creative spring crafts. Led by librarian Elise Katz. Wednesday, April 17, 3:30-5:00 p.m.
  • Lindsay and Her Puppet Pals. Lindsay and her larger than life puppets will perform several short plays that will delight children and the young at heart. For ages 3 and up. Thursday, April 18, 10:30-11:30 a.m.

FOR TEENS

  • Teen Advisory Board Meeting. Come to the first TAB meeting in the new “in progress” teen space on the mezzanine. We need teen input on décor for the new space, future teen programming, and more. We will make crafts and enjoy refreshments. For teens. Thursday, April 25, 2:45-4:00 p.m.
  • Volunteer Opportunity. We are seeking teen volunteers for our first ever Literacy Fair on Saturday morning, May 4. Teens can earn up to 3 hours of community service helping with crafts, face painting,
