Sudbury Valley Trustees (SVT) is offering two opportunities to learn about the vital role trees play in “The Benefits of Trees: To Our Planet and Ourselves.” SVT Director of Land Protection Christa Collins presents this program, inspired by Peter Wohlleben’s book, The Hidden Life of Trees: What They Feel, How They Communicate―Discoveries from A Secret World.

In this talk, Collins will delve into the many reasons trees – in urban, suburban and wilderness settings – are important for the well-being of our planet and our species. “The trees that we experience in our daily lives, whether they are isolated street trees or extensive woodlands, are critical to our health and well-being,” says Collins. “Nonetheless, they are often taken for granted, and there’s much science is still learning about how they function as individuals and within ecological communities.” Collins will also share some of the fascinating strategies healthy trees and forests use to survive and thrive.

On Wednesday, October 17 at 7:00 pm, the program will be offered at the Framingham Public Library’s main library at 49 Lexington Street in Framingham. On Thursday, November 8, at 7:30 pm the program will be offered at 19 Carter, a unique community gathering place at 19 Carter Street in Berlin.

SVT and nearly 3000 members protect and care for land and wildlife habitat in 36 communities surrounding the Concord, Assabet, and Sudbury Rivers.
