Upcoming family-friendly programs from the deCordova

Fall is a wonderful time to visit deCordova with your family. Enjoy time outdoors in the Sculpture Park, make art at a family-friendly workshop (including a NEW Parent-Child Clay Workshop starting October 13), and visit exciting new exhibitions opening in the Museum on October 19.

The Sculpture Park will be OPEN 10 am to 5 pm on Columbus Day, so stop by to spend time in the beautiful autumn weather! (The Museum gallery building will be closed.)

  • Family Clay Saturdays: Parent-Child Ceramic Series (NEW!), Saturdays, October 13–November 3, 10 am–12pm. Get your hands dirty and join us for a 4-session family clay workshop! Work side by side with your child(ren) to create two projects. For ages 6–9 with adult, no experience necessary. Sign up online here
  • ARTfull Explorations. Sunday, October 21, 1–3 pm (drop-in, rain or shine) Best for ages 5–12, but all are welcome. Join us in constructing a chaotically beautiful outdoor dining room as we celebrate the opening of the major traveling exhibition Sheila Pepe: Hot Mess Formalism. Embellish house furnishings by knitting, knotting, and wrapping them with colorful fibers. Creatively crafted carpets, dishes, and other domestic objects will complete our eccentric banquet hall.
  • ARTfull Play,  Wednesday, October 24, 10:30–11:30 am (rain or shine)  Best for children ages 2-5 accompanied by a caregiver. Nancy Winship Milliken’s Pasture Song invites us to imagine moving through its archway with dramatically draping fibers. At this month’s ARTfull Play, we will challenge ourselves to build sculptures tall and wide enough to crawl/walk under—and that just might tickle our bodies as we pass through!
  • Luminous Chaos! Sunday, November 11, 1–3 pm (drop-in, rain or shine)  Fun for children (and adults!) of all ages.  Sculpt, paint, paste, mush, twist, and illuminate messy materials to create your own luminous mini-sculpture inspired by Sheila Pepe’s mixed media “votives.”
