Vokes Players announce auditions for Peter and the Starcatcher

Peter and the Starcatcher By Rick Elice
Director: Katie Swimm
Musical Director: Jeff Kimball

The story.  A young orphan and his mates are shipped off from Victorian England to a distant island ruled by the evil King Zarboff. They know nothing of the mysterious trunk in the captain’s cabin, which contains a precious, otherworldly cargo. At sea, the boys are discovered by a precocious young girl named Molly, a Starcatcher-in-training who realizes that the trunk’s precious cargo is starstuff, a celestial substance so powerful that it must never fall into the wrong hands. When the ship is taken over by pirates – led by the fearsome Black Stache, a villain determined to claim the trunk and its treasure for his own – the journey quickly becomes a thrilling adventure.

Auditions. Auditions will be held at Beatrice Herefords Vokes Theatre, 97 Boston Post Road, Wayland, MA 01778 on:

  • Sunday, November 4 from 5:00 – 8:00pm
  • Monday, November 5 from 7:00 – 10:00pm

Auditions will be held in groups of ten, and will include a movement exercise, so come dressed appropriately. To audition, please sign up for an audition time here.

We are considering folks of all ages, genders, identities and abilities for Peter and the Starcatcher and are not determining ahead of time what sort of person would be best for each of these roles.  We look forward to casting the best person in each role.  We are looking for actors who aren’t afraid of singing on stage (even if they’re a bit out of tune!) and are comfortable moving (even if sometimes you trip yourself up!).

Actors should prepare a short monologue (one minute or less) and a short song (about 32 bars) in the style of the show. That means we’d rather hear a sea shanty than a ballad by Jason Robert Brown, and would rather listen to you read a passage from Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea than rattle off a monologue by Arthur Miller.  Something that shows us who this character is, how they move, if they can hold a tune, and if they have a sense of humor.  An accompanist will be provided, so please bring sheet music.

Callbacks: Callbacks will be held on Wednesday, November 7 from 7:00 – 10:00 pm  (as needed).
