ADULT PROGRAMS 

  • Climate Change, the Economy, and National Security Educator, grandmother and environmentalist Ariel Hoover examines the causes of climate change and its impact.  Learn how we can ensure our country’s future well-being (and yours) with existing practices, and what we can do to see that our children and grandchildren inherit a beautiful, living earth.  Thursday, September 6 at 7:30 p.m.
  • Library Walking Club. Join us for a 30-minute walk along a route near the library!  All ages and levels are welcome. Meet at the library at 10:30 on the first Friday of the month, September-December, rain or shine!  Park in the upper lot or, even better, in the Depot lot across the street.  Friday, September 7 at 10:30 a.m.
  • Learn about Pollinators and Make a Mason Bee Hotel. Insects pollinate by accident, but for us humans, pollination is absolutely essential: one-third of all plant species that become our food requires it. Wayland resident Kaat Vander Straeten will teach us about pollination from the point of view of the insects, the flowers, the farmer, and the 100% of our population that needs to eat!  Monday, September 10 at 7:30 p.m.
  • Rail Trail Update. Hurray! Five miles of the Wayside Rail Trail are nearly complete!  Find out what’s next when Larry Kiernan gives an update on the Trail between Wayland and Westonincluding plans to extend the trail east and west over the next few years, and the state’s master plan for building 104 miles of trail from Boston to Northampton.  Wednesday, September 12 at 7:30 p.m.
  • Cookbook Club. This month, we’re making and sharing recipes from The Silver Palate Cookbook by Sheila Lukens and Julee Rosso.  Pick up a copy of this beloved classic at the library and then join us on Thursday, September 13 at 6 p.m.
  • The Future of Land Conservation: What Will Our Landscape Look Like?  Imagine our region in the year 2050.  Which natural areas and farmland have been protected for people and wildlife, and which have been developed?  How can we shape this future?  Come hear about the Sudbury Valley Trustees’ strategies for protecting for natural areas in the coming decades, and how we can increase the pace of land protection and stewardship in our region.   Monday, September 17 at 7 p.m.
  • The Link Between Chronic Disease and Nutrition. Join us for a fun and informative talk about the brand-new dietary guidelines released by the U.S. government, which bust the low-cholesterol and low-fat diet myth.  The recommendations say healthy eating does include eggs and fat!  We will share shopping tips and easy recipes for yummy, fat-filled and healthy meals.  Thursday, September 20 at 7:30 p.m.

BABY AND PRE-SCHOOL PROGRAMS

  • Weekly Storytimes
    • Mother Goose Time (Infants-2.5 years) Tuesdays, Aug. 21, Sept. 4, 11 and 18 at 10:30 a.m.
    • StoryVine (2.5 -5 years) Thursdays, Sept. 20 and 27 at 10:30 a.m.
  • Storytime with Corbyn the Dog. Children will listen to dog stories and have a chance to visit with Corbyn, a beautiful Samoyed. Corbyn (with her owner Helen) has been certified as a therapy dog by Pets and People Foundation.  For ages 3 and up. Thursday, September 6, 10:30 a.m.
  • Sing-along with Jeannie Mack. Jeannie Mack will perform all kinds of fun, bounce-around, sing-along songs for young children. Plenty of opportunity for audience participation! For babies, toddlers, and preschoolers with caregiver. Thursday, September 13, 10:30-11:15 a.m.
  • Music and Movement. Get your wiggles out! Songs, dances, and stretches for walkers to age 5. Wednesday, September 19, 10:30-11:00 a.m.

SCHOOL-AGE PROGRAMS

  • What’s Our Story?: Musicians. Children will learn about the musicians Esquivel and Ella Fitzgerald, listen to their music, and make their own shakers and crazy instruments. Program led by librarian Elise Katz. For children in grades K to 2. Wednesday, September 12, 3:30-4:30 p.m.
  • K-2 Teambuilding Challenge. Bring your friends, and make new ones at this Teambuilding Challenge.  Children will work together to solve puzzles like the “Human Knot” and play games like “Don’t Wake the Dragon.”  Everyone wins when we work together. For children in grades K to 2.  Wednesday, September 19, 3:00—4:00 p.m.
