Wayland High School Student Journalists to Share Expertise

For the second summer in a row, Wayland High School students are offering a four-session Summer Journalism Camp for Wayland Public School students entering Grades 8 and 9 in the fall.  There is no charge for the program, which will focus on journalism and public speaking and be held July 2 – 6, 2018.

Instructors are Nathan Zhao and Kevin Wang. Zhao is currently editor of the award-winning, online student newspaper, Wayland Student Press Network (WSPN). A senior in the fall, he is a recipient of numerous honors, including a Scholastic Art and Writing Award Gold Medal and the 2017 Wayland Veterans Memorial Freedom Prize. Most recently he won the 2018 National Civic Expression Award. He is captain of the high school’s Speech/Debate and Model United Nations teams, and will be representing Massachusetts at the 2018 Al Neuharth Free Spirit Journalism Conference in Washington, D.C.

Wang, a junior this fall, is WSPN’s News Section Editor. He co-championed the 2018 Lakeland Debate Invitational and received a mark of “Excellent” in News Writing from the Journalism Educator’s Association.

Each morning session will start at 9:00 am and end at 11:30 am. There is no class on July 4. Students of all skill levels may enroll; no experience is required.
