ADULT PROGRAMS

  • Author talk: Climate Church, Climate WorldAccording to environmental leader Reverend Jim Antal, climate change is the greatest moral challenge humanity has ever faced, exacerbating all forms of global social injustice. In his new book, he calls for the church to embrace a new vocation so that future generations might live in harmony with God’s creation.  Antal speaks frequently in churches, regionally and nationally, on the essential role people of faith must play to counter climate change.  Hear him on Monday, May 14 at 7:30 p.m.
  • Feasting with your Instant PotThe instant pot craze is here.  It’s time to finally take your electric pressure cooker out of the box and put it to use.  Join chef Liz Barbour for a cooking class that will help take the mystery out of this amazing, time-saving kitchen tool.  Liz will demonstrate two recipes, then offer tasty samples for everyone to enjoy.  Space is limited, so please register through our website or by calling the library.  The class will be held on Tuesday, May 15 at 7 p.m.
  • Preston Heller, Mentalist – Thursday, May 17 — Cancelled

  • Stories from Wayland High School English Language Learners. As part of an ongoing project at WHS, students who are learning English have been writing stories, some based on their own lives, others wholly from their imaginations. These powerful and engaging stories have been collected into a volume titled Muse and Souls (available at the library).   Several of the authors will read their works, and then be available to discuss their writing and immigration experiences.  Come hear them on Saturday, May 19 at 11 a.m.
  • Spring Book and Bake Sale. Book donations will be accepted during set-up in the Town Building Large Hearing Room on Wednesday and Thursday, May 16 and 17.  Baked goods will be accepted from Friday until the end of the sale on Sunday—and bakers are needed!  Please call Jan Dunn at (508) 655-9149 if you’d like to offer your wares.  Friday, May 18 is a preview for Friends of the Wayland Library from 5 – 8 p.m.  The regular sale is May 19 from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. and May 20 from 12-4 p.m.
  • Author Talk: You Can Stop Humming NowTo the public eye, medical stories often begin with sirens and flashing lights, and culminate in survival or death.  But these are only the most visible narratives.  As a critical care doctor treating people at their sickest, Daniela Lamas is fascinated by a different story: what comes after for those whose lives are extended by days, months, or years as a result of our treatments and technologies?  She examines these issues in her new book and in her talk on Monday, May 21 at 7:30 p.m.
