Rehearsals begin the week of Sunday, August 26th, with the exact schedule to be determined.
ABOUT THE SHOW: In the first act of this musical double feature, an intrepid team of 4 ushers and 4 usherettes of the historic Grauman’s Chinese Theatre act as hosts and narrators, leading the audience through origin stories, song histories, backstage gossip, and even a stern warning on movie Do’s and Don’ts (set to an a cappella tap-dance) — a wonderful homage to the movie musicals of the 1930s and 1940s.
In Act 2 the ensemble portrays the characters in a musical stage version of Anton Chekhov’s short story “The Bear” (written as a Marx Brothers movie musical).
CHARACTERS: An ensemble of 4 men and 4 women
Act 1: the ensemble of 4m and 4w are the ushers at Grauman’s Chinese Theatre; all must sing and tap-dance.
Act 2: the ensemble plays the following roles:
Lead roles:
- SAMOVAR, the lawyer: the “Groucho” role, male, baritone
- CARLO: the “Chico” role, male, tenor
- GINO: the “Harpo” role, female, mezzo-soprano/alto (mute in Act 2)
- NINA: the female romantic ingenue, soprano/mezzo-soprano
- CONSTANTINE: the “Gummo” role, male romantic ingenue, tenor
- MADAM PAVLENKO, a rich Russian dowager: the “Margaret Dumont” role, female, soprano/mezzo-soprano
Supporting roles:
- SASCHA: a footman on the Pavlenko estate, male, baritone
- MASHA: a maid on the Pavlenko estate, female

The audition slot includes time for both singing and dancing auditions. Please bring a resume and headshot, and complete the audition form that you will receive via email after signing up. Please prepare two contrasting song selections (at least 1 being comic) of approximately 16 bars each, in the style of, but not from, the show. An accompanist will be provided.
Come prepared for a dance audition, bring tap shoes if you have them, and comfortable clothing that does not restrict your movement.
