Candidates Night and Town Issues Forum

Are you hoping to know enough about the candidates for town offices, and the issues facing the town to be ready for the town election on March 27 and for Town Meeting on April 2? There is no need to despair – the League of Women Voters is again offering Candidates Night, on March 14, and an Issues Forum on March 5. This will be the 68th Candidates Night, and will give voters a chance to see, hear and ask questions of many of the candidates for town offices. As always, impartiality is ensured by having a moderator from outside Wayland. This year, as last year, the moderator will be Jo-Ann Berry, of the LWV of Acton. There are only three contested offices, but all candidates have been invited to participate. The contested offices and contestants are: Selectmen (Lea Anderson, Mary Antes, and Steve Glovsky); Board of Public Works (Jonathan Mishara, Duane Galbi, and Clifford Lewis); and Recreation (David Pearlman, Kelly Pierce, and Thruston (Brud) Wright)

Attendees may submit written questions to the candidates. These questions are checked for clarity and for possible duplication, but are not otherwise judged before they are given to the moderator, who reads them to the candidates. More details will be available in the near future.

The Issues Forum will be held in the Senior Center in the Town Building, at 7:30 PM on Monday, March 5. Many of the major issues which involve Town Meeting articles will be explained and questions invited. These issues include a Community Center, Town Building and Station 2 renovations, advanced water meter infrastructure, and the library, including a petitioners’ article.

Voters are urged to take advantage of these opportunities to be well informed
