Wayland Buzz: Spotlight on the Council on Aging/Community Center Project

This week, Wayland Weekly Buzz will interview Bill Sterling, Chair of the COA/CC Advisory Committee and new member Pam Roman, who are presenting an article to Town Meeting requesting $470,000 for the purpose of preparing design, construction, and bid documents for a multi-use Council on Aging/Community Center to serve town residents in all seasons of life.

What’s changed in recent months to make this proposal more voter-friendly? First, there’s been a dramatic change in the scope of the project and the cost of construction – from an envisaged 22,000-square-foot facility to just 10,000 square feet in a building that already stands on the proposed site. Second, the building will be repurposed in a way that makes it as close to a net-zero- energy facility as possible.  Third, the town has finally come to an agreement with the owners of the Town Center to take possession of the municipal pad where the building is located; handover is expected to take place at the end of June.

Please tune in.
