CPC to hold Public Hearing on Town Meeting Articles

The Community Preservation Committee (CPC) invites you to attend a Public Hearing on Wednesday, February 15, 2017 at 7:30 PM in the Wayland Town Building, 41 Cochituate Road, to discuss six articles that the CPC has submitted for consideration at the 2017 Annual Town Meeting (ATM). Presentation of each article will be followed by a discussion during which you are encouraged to ask questions and/or comment on the articles.

The Community Preservation Fund accrues through a 1.5% surcharge on tax bills and an annual allocation from the State Trust Fund to communities that have adopted the Community Preservation Act (CPA), which Wayland did in 2001. Each year 10% of the funds collected must be set aside for historic preservation, 10% for open space acquisition and 10% for community housing. The remaining 70% can be spent on any of those disciplines and/or recreation. Monies not spent or designated for specific future spending are held as “uncommitted funds” and are available for future spending in a way to be determined by a future Town Meeting.

The CPC is charged with making recommendations to the Town Meeting of how to spend CPA funds. Articles submitted for 2017 ATM include the regular set asides, funds for a housing consultant, three historic preservation projects and two recreation projects. The Town Meeting attendees make the final decision of how our Community Preservation Funds are spent.
