Rivals will face off for the First Annual Post Road Cup at Wayland-Weston Hockey Night, February 11

It will be a big night of hockey on Saturday, February 11 as all of the hockey teams in Wayland and Weston will be on the ice at Rivers School in Weston for the evening.

The day starts at 4:20pm with the girls’ Wayland/Weston Middle School team playing
Medway/Ashland/Holliston followed by the boys’ Wayland Middle School team playing the Weston Middle School boys at 5:30pm. Prime-time starts at 6:40pm when the Wayland/Weston girls’ varsity team plays the Cambridge Rindge & Latin Falcons culminating in the 8:20pm face off between the Wayland boys’ varsity and Weston boy’s varsity team competing for the First Annual Post Road Cup.

The cup, sponsored by the Steve Henley Memorial Foundation, will mark the start of a new tradition for Wayland and Weston hockey.

The night of hockey will also feature a food truck with hamburgers, chicken fingers, french fries, hot chocolate and more for the crowd, Wayland and Weston students singing the national anthem and a 50/50 raffle.

Athletic Directors Heath Rollins of Wayland and Mike McGrath of Weston and their town’s respective hockey organizations, Wayland Hockey Association (WHA) and Weston Hockey Club (WHC), are excited for the event.

“This is always a big night for hockey when the Weston boys play Wayland at Rivers, so the organizations worked together to get all of the girls’ and boys’ teams from the middle school up to the high school to play on one night and generate some excitement about hockey in our towns,” said McGrath.

“We are hoping it will be a fun night for families and fans to be able to watch consecutive games and enjoy friendly competition,” added Rollins.

The WHA and WHC secured sponsors from businesses in both towns to offer t-shirts and other items for all of the players to commemorate the event.

The sponsors for the Wayland-Weston Hockey Night include OCB Eye Center, AJ Rose Carpets & Flooring, Brothers Marketplace, MDH Clinics, Pure Hockey, Ritchie Realty Team, Shep’s Mobile & Auto Repair, The VetValet, Vintage Properties, Washek Electric, Wayland Dental, Ogilvie’s Lumber and Andrew’s Pharmacy.
