TV Talk Show Host Expands to Grade Five Students; For Grades 6, 7, and 8, a New Round of Classes

Launching a program for Wayland Middle School students this fall, communications company MindSetGo – under owner Mark Altman’s direction – met with success in guiding 12 students toward successful creation of each one’s unique talk show host personality. Wayland School Community Programs presented the after-school program as part of its Community Education offerings.

Now expanding its reach to all Grade Five students in Wayland, “Lights, Camera, Communicate: Be the Star of Your Own Show” is debuting on Wednesday January 11, 2017, at Wayland Middle School. Altman will also offer a second workshop for Grades 6, 7, and 8 for those who want to continue building on the skills they started honing in the fall. New students are welcome, too.

The four workshops focus on interpersonal skills. Students practice making good eye contact, sitting or standing up straight, projecting their voice, and speaking clearly and confidently. Altman views these skills as being lost in an era when social media dominates our culture and face-to-face contact is on the decline.
As one student said upon the program’s completion: “I learned how to talk so people listen to me.”

The short shows are recorded and given to students as well as broadcast on You Tube.
Some possible show topics are “Back Talk Sports” for “anyone who lives and breathes sports…” or Back Talk Blend, a forum for discussing movies, music, fashion, or other entertainment forms.

Back Talk Tonight is a venue for getting laughs from the audience by making fun of the news, using sarcasm, or sharing opinions. Finally, the “Insert Your Name Here” show gives young broadcasters an opportunity to create a unique show and share a passion.

Each class will be limited to 12 students. Workshop dates are: Wednesdays, January 11, 18, 25, and February 1, 2017. The middle school program is from 1:10 to 2:55 pm and the Grade 5 classes begin at 3:30 and continue until 5 pm.

All classes are at Wayland Middle School, Room 130. Register asap as the fall class filled in just over a week.
