holiday-open-houseThe Wayland Historical Society will open the holiday season with its Holiday Open House, Sunday, December 4, from 2 to 5 p.m. at the Grout-Heard House Museum. Event co-chairs are Aida Gennis and Kathy Heckscher, assisted by Sally Lamprey. Everyone in town is welcome and invited to attend!

Festive decorations appropriate to the period of each of the Grout-Heard rooms will be provided by the Wayland Garden Club, with Susan Coppock, Gretchen Schuler and Lois Toombs serving as chairs. Home baked cookies, tea and punch will be served.

Girl Scout troops from all over town will be fashioning handmade decorations for the tree and alcove in the Stone Room. Each girl will make a different type of decoration illustrating this year’s theme, “Around the World.” Elisa Scola is coordinating the project.

The Open House is part of the annual Wayland Center Community Celebration. The Depot will offer refreshments and an array of handcrafted gifts and holiday items for sale from 2-5 p.m. Fran Friedman will be at the Library at 3 p.m. with a winter song program, sure to be enjoyed by all. Meet the new Library Director, Dana Mastroianni, while you enjoy merriment with Fran and refreshments courtesy of the Friends of the Wayland Public Library.

At 4:30 in the afternoon, there will be caroling on the steps of the First Parish Church in Wayland Center, with music by the Sudbury Valley New Horizons Band. Following the caroling, say hello to Santa in the church vestry, and enjoy cocoa and cookies provided by the youth of the church.
