Charles Dickens died before he could finish his tale of Edwin Drood. The lure of the unfinished story has drawn many writers over the years to try their hand at their own version. As our entreé into the 2016/2017 season, we offer this lively musical one, a multiple Tony Award winner by Rupert Holmes. In Holmes’ incarnation, the troupe of the Music Hall Royale re-creates the story in their ‘traditional’ style. The resulting mix of genres frames a mystery that uses the Dickensian characters and situations as starting points, and creates an evening of fun and music that might not be entirely recognizable by Mr. Dickens as his — because where Dickens’ plot ends, a solve-it-yourself mystery begins, with the audience joining in to finish the story. A boisterous musical mystery blending music hall antics with Victorian literature.

The cast for the show includes: Jim Ansart (Jamaica Plain), Emma Boroson (Arlington), Jenn Bubriski (Cambridge), Ginny Castagno (Roslindale), John Crampton (Randolph), Kate Finkelstein (Natick), Rebecca Glucklich (Jamaica Plain), Ben Halpern (Westborough), Brian Higgins, Dan Kelly (Boston), Nicole O’Keeffe (Arlington), Kevin Pitts (Newton), Francis Sheehan, Samara Soiref (Burlington), Andy Swansburg (Groton), and Todd Yard (Grafton).
