Feeding A Region: Foundation for MetroWest Grants $120,000 to Local Hunger Relief Agencies

foundation for metrowestFifty-two nonprofit agencies working across 28 cities and towns in the Greater Boston area are stamping out hunger thanks to grants from the Foundation for MetroWest Hunger Relief Fund, totaling nearly $120,000. This is a 10% growth in grant dollars distributed from 2015.

“Hunger is an issue that exists in our region,” said Judy Salerno, Executive Director of the Foundation for MetroWest. “But where there is need there is also action. Food pantries, community suppers, community farms, and food rescue organizations are all playing a role in helping our neighbors within MetroWest. In supporting a broad array of service agencies, the Foundation, through its generous fund holders, are taking a macro approach to solving a regional crisis.”

Of the 2016 grants, the Foundation doubled its support to organizations who primarily identify as farms, a strategic move that aligns the MetroWest Hunger Relief Fund’s focus with a key recommendation outlined in the 2014 MA Local Food Action Plan: increase the production and consumption of Massachusetts-
grown foods.
