HOLIDAY WEEKEND. The library will be closed for the Independence Day weekend from Saturday, July 2, through Monday, July 4. Summer hours will start the following weekend. During the summer we are open 10 a.m.-1 p.m. on Saturday and closed on Sundays.

PAGE POSITIONS.  The library has two openings for high school pages. Responsibilities include shelving materials, emptying the book drop, and other related tasks. Starting in September, pages work one Saturday 10 a.m.-5 p.m. and one Sunday 2-5 p.m. every 4 weeks. FILM SCREENING: MANUFACTURED LANDSCAPES. “Manufactured Landscapes” is a feature-length documentary on the world and work of renowned artist Edward, who makes large-scale photographs of ‘manufactured landscapes’ – quarries, recycling yards, factories, mines, dams. He photographs civilization’s materials and debris, but in a way people describe as “stunning” or “beautiful” and so raises all kinds of questions about ethics and aesthetics without trying to easily answer them. The Armchair Travel Book Club presents this film after have read the book “Visit Sunny Chernobyl” by Andrew Blackwell in March in which the author referenced Burtynsky and this film. All are welcome. MAGIC SHOW. Magician Scott Jameson will kick off Wayland Public Library’s Summer Reading Program, “On Your Mark, Get Set…Read,” with a magic show for ages 3 and up! This free program is made possible through the generous support of the Friends of the Library and in part by a grant from the Wayland Cultural Council, a local agency which is supported by the Massachusetts Cultural Council, a state agency. • Zumba Kids Jr. Tuesday, June 28, 10:3-11 a.m. for children ages 2.5 to 4 years old
• STEAM Team: Cantilevers, Wednesday, June 15, 3:30-4:30 p.m. for ages 5 and up. Who can make the longest cantilever? Children will spring into summer with this physics challenge.
• Spanish Storytime, Wednesday, June 29, 10:30-11 a.m. for ages babies to 5 years old. Children and their caregivers are invited to join us for stories, songs and fingerplays in Spanish.
• Quidditch Match, Thursday, June 30, 3-4 p.m. for Ages 5 and up. Children are invited to play Quidditch and then enjoy a Hogwarts snack. This program celebrates the famous sport in the Harry Potter books, and is a part of our Summer Reading Program.

FOREIGN FILM SERIES–VALENTIN. Argentinian filmmaker Alejandro Agresti turns his lens to his own childhood in this nostalgic coming-of-age tale set in the director’s hometown of Buenos Aires, circa 1964. Screening will be Tuesday, June 21, from 6:30-9 p.m.

CLEAN EATING BOOK CLUB. Explore clean eating approaches potluck style! Participants make a recipe from a selected cookbook to share. While enjoying our homemade delights, we’ll discuss the book, its author, and what each has to offer. SUMMER READING PROGRAM. On Your Mark, Get Set, Read!, the library’s 2016 Summer Reading Program for children from PreK to Grade 6 will start on June 20! Starting that day, kids can register for the program in person in the children’s room or through our website. They can keep track of their reading online or on paper logs (available in the Children’s Room). Check out the grade-level book lists on our website compiled by Wayland Library staff. We have a lot of great kids’ programs planned for July, too, including a magic show (6/22), a Quidditch match (6/30), drop-in crafts (7/6), puppet shows (7/7 & 7/18), a visit from Firefighter Todd (7/12), Creative Movement (7/20), a Library Olympics (7/21), a Hoola Hoop program (7/26), theater workshops.
