Reaching out in Wayland to help women in Thailand

Wayland Town Crier 6/11/16: Reaching out in Wayland to help women in Thailand. Wayland resident Corrie Dretler is spearheading an fundraising effort for Friends of Thai Daughters (FTD) which rescues girls at risk of being trafficked in the Golden Triangle. It provides education, emotional support and housing for the girls, as well as comprehensive, long-term support through college and beyond.   FTD’s Sunflower Celebration will be held at Elm Bank in Wellesley on Thursday, June 16.  The event will include rickshaw rides through Elm Bank’s gardens, Thai food by East Meets West, signature Thai cocktails and live music. A live auction will offer, among other packages, trips to Thailand, Brittany, France, and a private island in Maine. Other experiences include an Asian master cooking class, a Red Sox package that includes a visit to Fenway’s radio booth, a roasting and brewing session at Karma Coffee, and a private tour of Boston Harbor Distillery. Lyft will provide free rides to and from the event.  To buy tickets, offer an unusual item or experience for the auction, or to volunteer at the event, go online here.
