Free summer computer programming at Wayland High School

Steve Jobs on computingWayland School Community Programs is piloting a computer programming class for the summer of 2016.  The class will be taught by WHS alum, Eli Bucher (2015).  The goal of the course is not just to teach students how to program but to also inspire a deep interest in computer science and build complex problem-solving skills.  This class will provide great preparation for AP CS, but the aim is to go far beyond that.  Through the course, students will be challenged both creatively and intellectually by the project-based curriculum.  Learning to think like a computer scientist enables students to break down big problems into simpler and more approachable ones.

Eli is a Computer Science and Business double major at UMass Amherst and has experience teaching computer programming over Skype.  He has worked as a developer for companies such as MITRE and OmNomApps and has achieved recognition for his accomplishments in computer science, including a first place finish at the 2015 KAYAK Hackathon.
