Wayland’s Sam Kolovson wins UMass Spring Scholar-Athlete Laurels

UMass 5/4/16: Kolovson, Muller Take Home UMass Spring Scholar-Athlete Laurels. he University of Massachusetts Athletic Department announced its spring semester scholar-athlete award winners Wednesday as rowing senior Sam Kolovson and men’s lacrosse redshirt-junior Dan Muller earned the honors. Kolovson and Muller were recognized at the UMass Sports Luncheon on Wednesday, May 4.

Kolovson, a member of the UMass Honor’s College, will graduate with a degree in computer science in the Spring, 2016. She will begin work on a PhD in human centered design and engineering at the University of Washington in the fall. The Atlantic 10 Conference previously recognized Kolovson for her academic success with inclusion on the A-10 Commissioner’s Honor Roll.

Outside of the classroom, Kolovson earned experience in the field with internships in the University of Massachusetts OIT Department as a Junior Web Developer and in Research Experience for Undergraduates. She is also a three-year member of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) and served on the E-Board for the previous two years.

On the race course, Kolovson helped head coach Jim Dietz guide the Minutewomen to a pair of Atlantic 10 Championships in 2014 and 2015 as a member of the Varsity 8+ and Varsity 4+ boats. Recently, she took home a silver medal at the prestigious Head of the Charles in the Club Singles, which earned UMass an automatic reentry into the 2016 holding of the world-renowned event.
