East Timor and Indonesia: A Turbulent History, a Peaceful Rebuilding. Photojournalist Barry Pell will be at the library on Monday, April 25, at 7:30 p.m. to talk about East Timor, which is located north of Australia and is one of the world’s newest nations. After 24 years of war to establish independence, the Timorese are now getting on with rebuilding their nation. Pell’s photography will explore the charm and grace of the Timorese people and landscape and the seemingly unlimited potential of the country, as well as the fascinating culture and history of the nearby Indonesian archipelago.

dream houseDream House” with Catherine Armsden.  On Thursday, April 28, at 7 p.m. San Francisco-based author Catherine Armsden will discuss and read from her debut novel, “Dream House,” a story about family, love, and the power of houses that shape our lives. According to reviewers, in this book Armsden “confronts, dissects, and embraces the very idea of home: what it means to have one, to lose one, and ultimately, to make one of our own choosing.”

Friends Book and Bake Sale. The Friends of the Wayland Public Library will sponsor their Spring Book and Bake Sale in the Large Hearing Room of the Town Building on Saturday, April 30, from 10am-4pm and Sunday, May 1, from 12-4pm. There will also be a preview for members of the Friends on Friday, April 29, from 5-8pm. Drop-in Craft: Mother’s Day Cards.  Remember Mom on Mother’s Day! Children are invited to make Mother’s Day cards in this workshop led by local art educator Ashley MacLeod. Wednesday, April 27, 3-4pm for ages 4 and up.

TinkerCAD for Older Kids.  On Thursday, April 28, from 4-5pm librarians Matt Amory and Amy Horning will introduce kids (4th grade and up) to the process of 3D Printing and creating 3D models using TinkerCAD, a super-fun 3D design tool. Registration is required. Please register through our website event calendar. Kids 12 or older may register on their own, but we encourage parents to register and design with their children. Baby and Me: Massage.   Sheryl White of Baby Kneads will lead a one-time introductory baby massage workshop on Friday, April 29, from 10:30am-noon. She will give guidance to parents and caregivers about how to massage, relax, and soothe their newborn to pre-crawling baby. All of the techniques will be demonstrated on a doll and parents/caregivers will practice the strokes on their own babies during the class. Please bring a baby blanket!

Wayland Integrated Play Group.   The Community Partnerships for Children and Families is organizing an integrated play group in Wayland. The first meeting will be on Tuesday, May 3, from 2-2:45pm. This group will be led by Amanda Martin, Developmental Specialist at Criterion Early Intervention, and Beverly Mobilia, Coordinator of the Community Partnerships for Children and Families. Children, will sing, play, and have fun together! This is a group for children ages 18 months to 3 years with parent or caregiver. Space is limited and registration is suggested. Cookbook Night! Chuck Williams, Proprietor of Eagle Trading Books will present a program on the history of cooking and cookbooks in the United States followed by an opportunity to have one of your cookbooks appraised on Wednesday, April 27, 7-9 p.m. in the library’s Raytheon Room. Do you have a beloved cookbook passed down through generations or one that you found at a yard sale? Bring it along and get an idea what it’s worth! What It’s Like to Sing in the Chorus of the BSO and Boston Pops.  Come to the library on Tuesday, May 3, 2016 at 7:30 p.m. for our next Great Presenters program to hear an account of what it’s like to audition for, prepare, and perform with the Tanglewood Festival Chorus, one of the world’s premier symphonic choruses, and the official chorus of the Boston Symphony and Boston Pops. Jon Saxton’s presentation will include a quick introduction to some fundamentals of the musical score and singing, as well as excerpts from live performances. Jon is a bass-baritone in his tenth year with the Tanglewood Festival Chorus

wicked pissedWicked Pissed with Ted Reinstein. New England is as dotted with colorful and fascinating feuds as it is with low stone walls and big, red barns. And many of them go back just as far! For instance, did you know that the Breeds and the Bunkers are still fighting over a hill? Or that the revolution is still being fought—by Lexington and Concord?! From the colonial era, through early aviation ,to Red Sox-Yankees and present-day food fights, on Monday, May 16, at 7:30 p.m Ted Reinstein will tell us who’s really “Wicked Pissed” in New England, and why. (Followed by Q&A, and book-selling/signing.)

The Energetics of Health and Healing.  Leslie Barnett, Health Educator, will discuss the variety of ways that individuals can open blocked energy fields using Pulsed Electromagnetic Field therapy, nutrition, and other strategies on Thursday, May 5, from 7-8 p.m. Ms. Barnett is a Health Educator and Coach with a Master’s in Education from Harvard University and certification in health coaching from the Institute for Integrative Nutrition. She has a private practice in Natick and specializes in holistic health, nutrition and Lyme disease.

Genealogy Group Guest Speaker.  Sharon Christenson of the Massachusetts Genealogical Council and the Massachusetts Society of Genealogists will join us to discuss the Legacy Quick Guide, a handy resource for finding Massachusetts ancestors. Wednesday, May 11, at 7 p.m. All are welcome. If you are interested in exploring your family history or are you currently in the middle of such a project, come to the library where we offer the monthly opportunity to connect with fellow genealogists for inspiration and support.

Advanced 3D Design with Blender.  On Thursday, May 26, from 7-8:30 p.m. Eric Carlsen and members of the Wayland High School FRC Robotics Team will be on hand to guide people who are already familiar with Blender through adding detail to models. Registration through the library event calendar is required for this workshop and you must be familiar with Blender or have completed one of our earlier Blender Workshops. You must be 12 or older to register on your own, but we encourage parents to register and work with their children.
