On Tuesday, April 20th, the Wayland Police Department conducted tobacco compliance checks of local businesses that sell tobacco products. One individual under the age of twenty-one was sent to the establishments with instructions to attempt to purchase tobacco without showing any identification. All fourteen establishments passed the compliance check by requesting age identification prior to making a sale. This is the second consecutive time that no violations were documented during a tobacco compliance check.
The Wayland Police Department regularly conducts compliance checks at local businesses in an effort to reduce the underage consumption of alcohol or tobacco products.
