Sometimes even when life turns out exactly as you’d planned it, you can still be horribly unhappy.  That’s a bit of truth from Gina Gionfriddo’s biting comedy Rapture, Blister, Burn. Catherine has done well: she’s a well-known and well-respected feminist scholar working at a prestigious school, and much sought after as a speaker.  But now she’s struggling with her mother’s recent illness and the fear that she will soon be alone in the world.  During a sabbatical, she takes a job at her old college, and while teaching a class in her mother’s living room, Catherine explores the depths of her problems with an old college friend (who happens to be an old boyfriend’s wife), a young college student (the same old boyfriend’s ex-babysitter), and her mother. They explore feminism, argue about the influence of internet pornography and reality television on society, and then just argue. The intellectual becomes personal, moving each to examine her own life, wondering if she can “have it all” – whatever “having it all” really means.

The cast for the show includes: Lea Oppedisano (Hopkinton), Grace Sumner (Somerville), Alex Thayer (Maynard), Becca Leighton (Jamaica Plain), and Leslie Wagner (Carlisle).  The director, Michelle Aguillon, is from Watertown.
