Two outstanding out-of-state a cappella groups will be appearing at the Spring College A Cappella concert at WHS on Saturday, March 19 at 7:30 — the night before spring officially begins.

The Brick City Singers from Rochester Institute of Technology (NY), an all-male group, promises to bring a summer vibe to town with their feel-good performances and colorful personalities. Wayland High School graduate Jack Case is a member of the Brick City Singers and will be making a triumphant return to the Wayland stage.

Brown University (RI) Brown’sTones, an all-female group, prides itself on diversity of its membership as well as its repertoire, which ranges from Paul Simon to Rihanna. The group has performed in London, New York City, and San Francisco, and now it can add Wayland to that list.

Each year, the College A Cappella concerts are a musical highlight of Wayland life. Alongside the Brick City Singers and Brown’sTones, the co-ed Northeastern Nor’easters will also be performing. Wayland High School’s own talented a cappella groups – the Muses, T-Tones and Madrigals – will round out the evening’s entertainment.

A cappella music features fresh arrangements of both classic and contemporary songs performed by unaccompanied singers, though vocalists sometimes emulate instruments. Having experienced a huge surge in popularity in recent years, a cappella attracts the most talented singers on college campuses nationwide.

The concert will be held at the Wayland High School Theater, located at 264 Old Connecticut Path. Seats are general admission and doors open at 7 p.m. The concert will have one intermission with complimentary refreshments served.

Priced at $18, tickets are available at Donelan’s, Russell’s Garden Center, and online at the WHS CAPA website, www.whsarts.org. You can also find pictures, videos, and additional information on the concert’s Facebook page at www.facebook.com/collegeacappella/.

The a cappella concerts and art sales are major fundraisers for the Creative Arts Parents Association (CAPA), the organization that supports all Wayland High School arts, music and theater programs. For more information, to join the mailing list, or to make a donation, visit www.whsarts.org.
