Discover Indian Classical Music at Indian Hill Music School

Indian Hill Music will host a special Indian classical music workshop and performance by musician and teacher Shivananda Sharma of the CJ Maa Music School in Rishikesh, India on Friday, October 16 from 7 – 8:30 pm at 36 King Street, Littleton, MA. Doors open at 6:30, and general admission seating is limited. The event is free and open to the public. Donations will be collected to support the CJ Maa Music School.

Beginning at 7 pm, two mini-workshops will introduce classical Indian violin and tala, or rhythm, demonstrated on tabla. The workshops will be followed by a performance of traditional ragas and kirtan at 7:30. Attendees are invited to bring their instruments for the workshops. Indian Hill Music School will provide a limited number of hand percussion instruments for the tala workshop.

CJ Maa Music School was founded in Rishikesh, India by Swami Maa Chetan Jyoti in October 2005 with the goal of developing the musical potential in local impoverished children. Shivananda Sharma, teacher and director of the school, teaches some 50 children traditional Hindustani classical music on violin, tabla, slide guitar, sitar, santoor, mandolin, and voice, at no cost to the students.
