Planned Parenthood is coming to Wayland!

PPLM2015The Planned Parenthood League of Massachusetts (PPLM) is hosting a House Party in Wayland on May 28th,  6-8PM; all folks with interest in supporting PPLM are welcome to attend. Tickets — or donations if you are unable to attend but want to support this great organization — are available at  www.pplm.org/wayland.

These house parties – about 15 run each year around Massachusetts – are a mainstay of support and funding for PPLM.  This year’s Wayland party is held at a local house in Wayland, and is set up with ample time for conversation, comradery and fun, supplemented with great food and drink.  It’s always terrific to see the Wayland community come together at an important event such as this. Historically we’ve had about 100-130 people attending – this year we’d like to make it more!

The mission of PPLM is to protect and promote sexual and reproductive health and freedom of choice by providing clinical services, education, and advocacy. PPLM believes that sexual health is essential to every person’s total well-being.    They offer education programming for elementary school children, for teens,  up through adults and professionals.  Indeed, the  Professional Training program stands as a popular program across the state. Teachers, nurses, social workers and other professionals who work with youth recognize PPLM as a trusted source of factual information on topics of sexual health, as well as experts in techniques of education delivery in the classroom.

One of the hosts of this year’s party, Beth Cliff (Highfields Road), explains her enthusiasm for PPLM and the House Party. “PPLM is a terrific organization to support girls and boys, men and women, as all want information and guidance on how to handle topics that are, let’s face it, often uncomfortable to talk about – or even to talk about how to talk about!  Many of us grew up in a generation where these topics were never brought to light; it’s great for parents and teachers to have a place to turn to for advice on how to discuss all this in today’s modern world.

“Whatever I can do to support PPLM,” adds Cliff, “so they can do this kind of thing not just for Wayland, but for cities and towns across the Commonwealth, I’m all for. Especially at a time when states across the country are quietly and purposefully whittling away financial and legal support for organizations such as these, these house parties are critical – for education, and for all the other clinical services and advocacy they provide. My husband Gordon and I are pleased to be involved with PPLM with this year’s Wayland House Party: a wonderful combination of community engagement and financial support.”
