Whitney TandonWayland Summer Strings to be Held in August For Children Entering Grades 5 -9

Wayland Summer Strings returns this summer after a successful debut in 2014. Led by Whitney Tandon, Wayland Strings Director for Grades 4-8, the one-week program will culminate in a concert for family and friends. Dates are August 3 – 7, 2015, for the 12:30 to 3:30 pm sessions at Wayland High School.

The program is for students who are entering Grades 5 – 9. Entering fifth graders should have at least two years of professional private lessons. “There are some fifth grade students who are advanced enough to benefit from this program, and I would be happy to discuss the recommended experience level needed,” Ms. Tandon said. Fifth grade families may contact Ms. Tandon at whitney_tandon@wayland.k12.ma.us to discuss individual students.

Summer Strings will be a week of “chamber music and fun,” according to Ms. Tandon. Daily activities will include guided chamber ensemble rehearsals, musical games and activities, and preparation of a large ensemble piece.

In describing the week-long program, Ms. Tandon says: “This program is a chance to spend a week learning chamber music (trios, quartets, and more) as well as play in a larger ensemble.”

Ms. Tandon’s goal is for the children to “have a great time making music together. There will be small group activity and fun music activities, including the return of last year’s super successful Orchestra Olympics,” she explained.

The large ensemble practices will prepare musicians for the Friday concert for family and friends.
Cost is $150 per student with enrollment limited to 16. Questions may be directed to Ms. Tandon at Whitney_Tandon@wayland.k12.ma.us.

The program is being offered through Wayland School Community Programs. The registration form is available at:
