Two Wayland businesses fail cigarette compliance check

On Monday, November 11, 2014, the Wayland Police department conducted undercover cigarette compliance checks of local businesses / establishments that sell tobacco products. One youth, aged 16 was sent into establishments with instructions to attempt to purchase cigarettes without showing any identification.

Two (2) of the fourteen (15) establishments checked sold cigarettes to the underage youth; Sperry’s Fine Wine, 87 Andrew Avenue and Gulf gas station, 28 Boston Post Road. These establishments will be referred to the Board of Health for follow up. This is the second violation in one year for the Gulf gas station at 28 Boston Post Road.

The Wayland Police Department regularly conducts both alcohol and cigarette compliance checks at local businesses in an effort to reduce the underage consumption of alcohol and tobacco products.
