WSCP Announces Fall Community Education Programs

wscpWith courses focusing on music, art, drama, world languages and more, Wayland School Community Programs is bringing a varied after-school enrichment program to the town’s K-5 students this fall.

All three elementary schools will offer a Kindergarten soccer program, and a children’s chorus is open to all Grades 1 – 4 children. It is being held at Loker School’s theatre. For both beginners and those who have already begun world language study, there will be French, Spanish, and Chinese courses in all three schools.

Beehive Art will offer its Mixed Media class at Loker and Claypit Hill this fall. At Happy Hollow on Thursday, December 11, 2014, Beehive Art is offering a one-time, 90-minute workshop, “Gifts to Give.” This is for K-3 students, who will experiment with cutting, collaging, painting, glitter painting and the creation of festive treasures and fun gifts. At Happy Hollow starting in January, the Mixed Media class will begin.

Conrad Gees, retired Grade 5 teacher at Happy Hollow, will once again teach photography in the district. His class for Grade 5 pupils debuted at Happy Hollow last year. This year he will expand his schedule to include the other elementary schools as well as Wayland Middle School.

Another creative outlet is the Drama Kids International program, which is offered at all three schools. The Claypit Hill School program on Wednesdays is fully enrolled, but a second class is planned if enrollment is sufficient. Families are encouraged to continue registering, and will be notified if a second class is offered.

Community Education also offers a thriving private music lesson program coordinated by Claypit Hill School Music Teacher Bernadette Vanaria.  It is for students already enrolled in the Wayland Public School district’s music programs. Lessons are for: orchestra members, Grades 3 – 12, band members, Grades, 4 – 12, and chorus members, Grades 6 -12.
