SUMMER HOURS
During the summer, the library will be open on Saturdays from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. and closed on Sunday. Regular hours will resume on Saturday, September 6.

NON-FICTION BOOK GROUPbehind the beautiful forevers The next selection for our new non-fiction book group, led by Nancy McMenemy-McColm will be “Behind the Beautiful Forevers” by Katherine Boo. We’ll be meeting on Monday, August 18, 7-9 p.m. in the Raytheon Room.

SUMMER READING PROGRAMS
Registration for the Massachusetts Statewide Reading Programs, “Fizz, Boom, Read!” is still underway. Kids can sign up at the library or online from the Children’s section of our website, waylandlibrary.org. Teens can sign up for the Teen program, “Spark A Reaction” from the Teen section of our website. All kids can keep track of their reading online. Younger kids can choose to track their reading on a paper log.

JULY CHILDRENS’ PROGRAMS
All programs in the Raytheon Room unless otherwise indicated.

  • How to Catch a Mouse: Simple Machines at Work—Thursday, July 17, 2:30- 3:30 p.m. “Jungle Jim” will be at the library to build a giant mouse trap out of balloons. Children will learn about simple machines in this hands-on workshop. For ages 4 and up. This program is funded in part through a grant by the Wayland Cultural Council.
  • Todd Gutner on the Weather—Wednesday, July 23, 3-4 p.m. Wayland resident and CBS meteorologist Todd Gutner will talk to kids about how weather forecasting works. For ages 4 and up.
  • Drop-in Robot Crafts—Wednesday, July 30, 3-5 p.m. Make crafty robots out of recycled materials in this program led by librarian Elise Katz. For ages 4 and up

FREE TEEN ART WORKSHOPS
WHS art teacher Janet Armentano will offer two free workshops for teens at the Wayland Library in July. Participants will develop a small oil painting en plein air (weather permitting). Dates: Wednesday, July 16, from 3-5 p.m. and Wednesday, July 23, from 9:30-11:30 a.m. Limit of 15 participants per workshop. Participants may take one or both workshops. Teens may register through our online calendar at waylandlibrary.org.

JULY EXHIBITS
The Raytheon Room will feature Arts Wayland Photography Show during July. An artists’ reception has been planned for July 21 at 6 p.m. The work of David Eggers will be in the foyer.

USS Constitution logoNEW ACTIVITY PASSES
We have two new passes available to residents, one for the Pawtucket Red Sox and other of the USS Constitution Museum. Each Pawtucket Red Sox pass can be used to purchase up to five General Admission tickets for $4.00 per ticket, or six General Admission tickets at $3.50 per ticket. See the schedule and read more at the PawSox website at the Minor League Baseball website, www.milb.com. The second new pass we have is to the USS Constitution Museum, which provides free entry into the USS Constitution Museum for up to nine people. Learn more about the museum at www.ussconstitutionmuseum.org. All our activity and museum passes are provided by the Friends of the Wayland Library.
