Wayland Town Crier 5/31/14: Wayland Police offers tips to fight identity theft. Following a rash of identity thefts that targeted Wayland residents, the Police Department is offering advice on how to keep your personal data safe and secure. According to Officer Lynnet Sloan, who wrote up a number of the reports, many of the victims discovered the theft when they attempted to file their taxes, only to find a bogus return had already been filed under their Social Security number. In other cases, the targeted victims became suspicious when, even before they had filed their returns, they received a letter or phone call purportedly from the IRS asking for further documentation.
