SPRING SHAKESPEARE!
If it’s spring, then love must be in the air and, because it’s Wayland, Shakespeare’s in the air, too! Professor Helen Whall of the College of the Holy Cross returns this spring for a program entitled “Shakespeare in Love Again.” We will meet on these dates: May 14 (Much Ado About Nothing) and May 28 (Anthony and Cleopatra).

ADVENTURES IN FERMENTATION WITH KEN RIDEOUT
Don’t miss our next Great Presenters program on Tuesday, May 6, at 7:30 p.m. when WHS teacher Ken Rideout will share tales from a previous life when he worked in a winery in Corsica in a program entitled “Corsican Wine Making and Basement Beer Brewing: Adventures in Fermentation.” (He’ll also give us the back-story of his Corsican connection.) Ken’s adventures in fermentation began on a leave of absence from the Carnegie Mellon physics Ph.D. program in 1995. Ken is currently a physics teacher and science department head at Wayland High School where he has been teaching for six years. Now, he keeps fermentation in his life by home brewing beer.

ARTISTS OF PLACE WITH JUDY SCHURGIN
Mark your calendars—Judy Schurgin will return for three Tuesday afternoons in May to talk about three important artists, Claude Monet, Winslow Homer, and Georgia O’Keeffe, who were very inspired by particular landscapes near their homes, notably Giverney, Prout’s Neck, and Abiquiu. This series will focus on the life and works of these innovative and influential artists. The first program will be Tuesday, May 6, at 1 p.m.

PARENT/CHILD BOOK GROUP
The next meeting of our parent/child bookgroup (for children in grades 4 and 5 with a parent) will be Wednesday, May 28, from 7-8 p.m. in the Children’s Room. Each month we discuss a different book. This month we will talk about “Troubletwisters” by Garth Nix and Sean Williams. Led by Youth Services Librarian Pam McCuen.

FAMILY SING-A-LONG
Jeannie Mack will perform all kinds of fun, bounce-around, sing-a-long songs for young children and their parents/caregivers. This is a lively and fun performance that will have children singing, dancing, and clapping! Saturday, May 10 at 11 a.m. For ages 2 and up.

ZUMBA KIDS JR.
On Wednesday, May 28, from 10:30-11 a.m., children ages 2.5 to 4 years old can join us for a rhythm and dance program led by Julia Walderzak of H2K Happy Healthy Kids Fitness Studio in Sudbury.

LEGO CLUB
Our Lego Club for ages 5 and up will meet on Wednesday, May 14, at 3 p.m. in the library’s Raytheon Room. This month’s theme is Star Wars.

EVENING BOOK GROUP WITH AUTHOR APPEARANCE
Wayland author George Harrar will meet with our Evening Book Group on Monday, May 5, at 7 p.m. to discuss his most recent book, “Reunion at Red Paint Bay.” For more information about the book group, contact librarian Andy Moore at 508-358-2311.

NON-FICTION BOOK GROUP AT LAST!
There’s a lot of great non-fiction these days, and we’re starting a group to talk about it. Led by our own Nancy McMenemy-McColm, the first meeting is on Monday, June 16, 7-9 p.m. and the first title is Edward Slingerland’s “Trying Not to Try: The Art and Science of Spontaneity.” Come join the conversation!

SHOWER FOR SHELTERS
For the 14th year the Sudbury-Wayland-Lincoln Domestic Violence Roundtable will hold a “Shower for Shelters” from May 2 through May 11. Families transitioning from a shelter appreciate your gift of new household items to help them establish their new homes. Unwrapped gifts (new items only, please) may be delivered to the Wayland Library. Particularly useful gifts include kitchen items, bathroom items, and bed linens.

NEEDLEWORK/HANDWORK GROUP
The library sponsors a group that works on needlework and handwork projects together. For more information, contact Ann Moses at 508-358-7113 or annmoses@verizon.net. This year’s remaining meetings are on May 7 and June 4 from 10 a.m.-noon.

WAYLAND POETRY WORKSHOP ANNUAL READING
Join the Wayland Library Poetry Workshop on Sunday, May 4, from 2:30-5 p.m. in the Raytheon Room for poetry and refreshments at this year’s annual reading, featuring local poets Rachel Greenstein and Nancy Geiser. Several other members of the workshop will be reading their own works as well. For more information contact Judy Hoyer at 508-655-2868.

friendsFRIENDS SPRING BOOK & BAKE SALE
The Friends’ Book and Bake Sale is a great semi-annual community event. This spring it will take place this weekend on Saturday, May 3, from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. and Sunday, May 4, from 12-4 p.m. in the Large Hearing Room of the Wayland Town Building. There will also be a preview for members of the Friends on Friday, May 2, from 6-8:30 p.m. Memberships will be available at the sale starting at 5:30 p.m.
