Habitat for Humanity Project underway in Wayland

habitatAfter fits and starts, the Wayland Habitat project finally got underway with a foundation laying ceremony on Saturday, January 11. On Saturday, January 18th, laying the foundation will begin in earnest.  All the foundation blocks should be on site and you are welcome to put in place the foundation blocks you purchased, under the supervision of the manufacturer’s representative. The blocks, similar to technologically advanced and insulated Lego pieces, were purchased by about 100 Wayland residents and groups over the past three years to provide a foundation of support for affordable housing in Wayland.

The foundation blocks literally build a wall and community of support for four new Wayland families at 91-93 Stonebridge Road. Two of the four families selected to live in these homes have Wayland connections. One family has children in the Wayland School system through the METCO program and the second family currently lives in Wayland but needs a more stable living situation. Members of the families put in 400 to 500 hours of sweat equity, building their personal portion of the American dream by laying down blocks alongside the volunteers who generously give their time and money to help build houses, community, and hope.

Sign-up for work days has begun.  Please send an email to volunteer@habitatmwgw.org if you would like to help with construction.
