Jim is retired from Middlesex School in Concord where he served for 40 years as teacher, coach, dorm head, and business manager. Currently, he works at the Lowell Food Bank, serves as Board Chair at Carleton Willard Village in Bedford, and is on the boards of Habitat, the New England Grenfell Association, and Communities for Restorative Justice in Concord.

POETRY WORKSHOP BY STEVEN RATINER
The Wayland Library sponsors a poetry group that meets bi-monthly in the Raytheon Room on Thursday afternoons at 2 p.m. Members read their own poetry and critique that of others. New members are always welcome. Each year the library sponsors a workshop by a local well-known published poet. The general public is welcome to attend the workshop. This year, Arlington poet Steven Ratiner will be our instructor on Thursday, December 5, from 1:30-4 p.m. Mr. Ratiner is both a poet and an educator. His long-standing commitment is to expand the way audiences experience poetry and the arts. He has taught over 300 poetry residencies in schools throughout New England, as well as teaching in a number of colleges. His own writings have been published in the United States and abroad, in numerous journals, two recent poetry chapbooks, and in his book Giving Their Word, a fascinating compilation of interviews of famous poets, including Seamus Heaney, Mary Oliver, and Bei Dao. Besides his residencies and writings, Steven has collaborated with a variety of artists in multi-disciplinary performances involving poetry, dance, music, videography, and the visual arts. He has a particular interest in exploring the parallel experiences of poets in ancient Chinese and contemporary American cultures.
