Towns see big increase in CPA funding

Wayland Town Crier 11/19/13: Towns see big increase in CPA funding. Buoyed by a busier housing market and $25 million boost from last year’s budget, the state’s Community Preservation Trust Fund has nearly doubled contributions to towns this year. Across the state, communities participating in the Community Preservation Act (CPA) have received a matching fund from the state that is at least 52.23 percent of the revenue they generated on their own last fiscal year through a local property tax surcharge, up from 26.64 percent a year ago, according to the Community Preservation Coalition. For big CPA fundraisers such as Sudbury and Weston, both of which assess the maximum 3 percent surcharge, the increase pushes their state contribution this year to close to $1 million apiece. All CPA towns in MetroWest have received at least a six-figure sum.
