Temple Shir Tikva Scholar Weekend

Temple Shir Tikva, the Reform Congregation in Wayland, Ma, is hosting a scholar in residence weekend October 18-20, with Dr. Michael Cook, a renowned expert in Judeo-Christian studies.  The community is invited to study with Dr. Cook on topics ranging from: What are the essential differences between Judaism and Christianity? What is the Christian Bible and how is it relevant to Jews today? What do Christians know about Jews and what do Jews know about Christianity? The weekend begins on Friday, October 18th at 6:15pm with Shabbat Services followed by a dinner and lecture. It continues at 9:30am on Saturday October 19th and Sunday October 20th from 9am-11am.

The interfaith theme of the weekend responds to Shir Tikva member requests for more interfaith learning and programs during the Temple’s 36th Year celebration, 2013-14.

Dr. Cook is Bronstein Professor of Judeo-Christian Studies at Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion in Cincinnati, and the only rabbi in North America with a Chair in New Testament. In 2003, he was one of seven scholars selected by the Catholic Bishops to assess the accuracy of the advance script of Mel Gibson’s movie Passion of the Christ. Dr. Cook has received an Excellence in Teaching Award from the Greater Cincinnati Consortium of Universities.
