National Depression Screening Day is October 10

wyfsNational Depression Screening Day is Thursday, October 10. Each year, Wayland Youth and Family Services supports the effort to raise awareness about depression, which is a common and treatable medical condition. Unfortunately, a variety of cognitive, interpersonal, and medical problems are associated with chronic and untreated depression, and most people with depression do not receive treatment. This year we are partnering with Screening for Mental Health, Inc., a non-profit organization in Wellesley, to offer free anonymous online screenings for depression, as well as several other mood and anxiety disorders. These screenings are designed for adult use only, except for a screening for adolescent depression which should be completed by a parent and child together.

Please note: These screenings are not meant to render a diagnosis, but to determine whether you should seek further evaluation and possible treatment, based on the symptoms you are reporting. After completing the screening, you will have access to a list of local resources where this service is available. In addition, the site offers brief educational videos and useful fact sheets to increase awareness about these potentially debilitating conditions. To take one of these screenings, please follow this link. The screening program will be available through 8/31/14 for our community’s access.
