Legislation could set aside $2 billion for water, sewer improvements

Wayland Town Crier 10/2/13: Legislation could set aside $2 billion for water, sewer improvements. A new state bond that would provide funding for local water infrastructure could allow MetroWest communities to better monitor pipes and water systems. “The problem for most communities is that they don’t put a lot of money into infrastructure and they wait until they have a problem,” said Don Ouellette, Wayland’s Public Works director. Ouellette said Wayland would be able to match allocated state funds to put more money into its water system. Despite a water main break in Wayland last month, Ouellette said the town is “ahead of the game” and has spent $500,000 per year for the past four years to address water main issues.
