Wayland Community Funds seeks donations for Wayland residents in financial need

The Wayland Community Fund will soon complete another successful year, one in which we have been able to meet the needs of Wayland residents by helping them with utility bills, rent, food, medical expenses, and a number of other basic items.

This year the most frequent requests (60%) have been for help with utility bills. Other items include rent 19%, medical expenses 16%, and many other items including food and children’s’ clothing.

A year and a half ago we were in danger of running out of funds and we mailed a solicitation to Wayland residents. The response was overwhelming. Wayland residents can be very generous and we were able to continue to operate not only for the rest of the fiscal year but well into the next year.

Following that, another good thing happened. People who had helped us in the fall of 2011, continued to
remember us and this year we have received enough unsolicited contributions to carry us well into FY 2014. This coming fall we may finally start to run out of funds and will have to go out with another mailing; but we don’t want to send out a request for funds until it is really necessary. We are a small organization and we tend to live on the edge.

In the meantime, many thanks for your continuing help for the Wayland Community Fund. Please remember we are staffed entirely by volunteers who cover their own expenses. We receive no funds from the town of Wayland, and we have no operating or administrative costs. Every penny you contribute goes directly to helping a Wayland resident in financial need.
