Free wine tasting kicks off Shower for Shelters drive

Wayland Town Crier 4/6/13: Free wine tasting kicks off Shower for Shelters drive. In anticipation of the annual Shower for Shelters drive, join the Sudbury-Wayland-Lincoln Domestic Violence Roundtable to learn about our local domestic violence service providers who provide shelter and transitional housing for survivors of domestic violence and their families.

Representatives from REACH Beyond Domestic Violence, The Second Step and Voices Against Violence will discuss their shelter and transitional housing programs and the important role community support plays in helping families transition to their own homes. The meeting will be held on Tuesday, April 9 at 3 p.m. in the Community Meeting Room at the Public Safety Building located at the intersection of routes 20 and 27 in Wayland Center. The program is free and open to the public.

On Friday, April 26 at 7 p.m., the Roundtable will hold a complimentary wine tasting to kick off its annual Shower for Shelters. The wine tasting will be hosted by Sudbury Wine and Spirits, located in Rugged Bear Plaza on Route 20 in Sudbury. Families transitioning from a shelter or transitional housing appreciate your gifts of new household items to help them establish their new homes. Please bring an unwrapped housewarming gift to the wine tasting. For gift suggestions check out The Domestic Violence Roundtable webstite. Some of the needed items are diapers, household cleaners, sheets, blankets, baby shower items, flatware, plates, glasses and towels. Gift cards to CVS, Market Basket, Stop & Shop, Hannaford’s, Shaw’s and Roche Bros. are also appreciated, or send a check to SWLDVR with a notation in the memo “SFS” to PO Box 543, Sudbury MA 01776.

The Shower for Shelters collection will be held from Sunday, April 28 to Sunday, May 12. Donations of new items may be left in the designated collection baskets at the Goodnow Library in Sudbury, the Wayland Library and the Lincoln Library.
