Katie 5/25/13: Redemption. Malcolm Astley and Mary Dunne appeared on Katie Couric’s show “Katie” as part of the theme “Redemption”. Lauren Astley was a Wayland, Massachusetts teenager whose life was tragically cut short at the hands of her high school sweetheart. Lauren’s boyfriend, Nathaniel Fujita, was charged with strangling and fatally stabbing her in July 2011. If you were Lauren’s parents, how could you possibly go on? Wayland Patch 3/26/13: Parents Tell of Graciousness, Activism in Face of Daughter’s Murder. “Extraordinary grace.” Such were the words Katie Couric used to introduce two of the guests on Monday’s episode of “Katie.” Those two guests were Malcolm Astley of Wayland and Mary Dunne of Weston, parents of Lauren Astley, the Wayland teenager killed in July 2011 by her ex-boyfriend and Wayland High School classmate Nathaniel Fujita. “If you were her parents and she was your only child, how could you possible go on?” Couric asked in her introduction. “But they have managed to and with extraordinary grace.”

Wayland Town Crier 3/26/13: Slain Wayland teen’s parents appear on ‘Katie’. Lauren Astley’s parents appeared on Katie Couric’s talk show Monday afternoon to discuss the importance of promoting healthy relationships among teenagers. Mary Dunne and Malcolm Astley, whose daughter was murdered in Wayland in 2011 by her ex-boyfriend Nathaniel Fujita, were the first guests on Monday’s episode of “Katie,” which focused on forgiveness and redemption. The episode was taped on March 14.
