Snow days pile up for Metrowest schools

Wayland Town Crier 3/13/13: Snow days pile up for Metrowest schools What is at stake if area schools have any more snow days? Perhaps family vacations and carefree Saturdays. Each snow day – when a superintendent closes schools because of bad weather – brings MetroWest public school districts closer to the end of their academic calendar. Teachers’ contracts end on June 30 with the fiscal year, making the last possible school day Friday, June 28. And with a huge snowstorm canceling school for many MetroWest districts last Friday, some are now dangerously close or already at June 28.

In Wayland, which has had three snow days thus far (two for Hurricane Sandy and one snow day in February), the last day of school for students is currently Friday, June 21.
