New Chinese Language Class Being Offered for Adults

Wayland School Community Programs is pleased to announce a new Community Education offering: a beginning Chinese language class for adults. The series of 10 classes is being held at Wayland High School beginning Thursday, March 14, 2013. The time is 7:00 pm – 8:30 pm.

Class fee for the 10 classes is $225, and the dates are: March 14, 21, 28, April 4, 11, 25 and May 2, 9, 16, and 23. A minimum of 5 students is needed to offer the class.

Coco Min Zhou, who has brought Chinese Language and Culture Classes to Wayland’s elementary and middle schools in recent years, is expanding her efforts in response to interest from both school personnel and community members. “In today’s global economy, Chinese is such an important language to learn,” commented WSCP Director Brian Jones in announcing the new offering.

Participants will learn some basics, such as how to order food or engage in conversations when traveling in China. Min Zhou advises the class will also be beneficial for parents whose children are already studying Chinese. “This is also a chance to connect with people who share an interest in Chinese language and culture. The class will teach participants how to communicate in Chinese on many important and practical aspects of Chinese culture – traditions, customs, and values.”

The class will introduce basic elements of Chinese language: the Chinese pronunciation system using the English alphabet and basic Chinese characters.
