Wayland Town Crier 2/13/13: Local land trust marks milestone anniversary. When the nation turned its sights to building interstate highways, a small group in Wayland set its sights on preserving open space. The seven founding members – who included the late George Lewis, known as “Mr. Wayland” for his years of service to the town that included three terms as selectman, and Allen Morgan, a noted ornithologist, founder of the town’s Conservation Commission and a guiding force for the Mass. Audubon Society – felt conserving land and protecting wildlife habitats were goals worth pursuing for the generations to come.
