Wayland Town Crier 1/17/13: Petitioners’ articles include proposal to purchase Finnerty’s site. The following petitioners’ articles have been submitted for consideration at annual Town Meeting, which begins on Thursday, April 4 at Wayland High School’s Field House.

  • Acquisition of the Finnerty’s property (150 Main St.) proposes that the town acquire this property by purchase, gift, eminent domain or otherwise for the purpose of constructing a community center and/or preserving open space. Lead petitioners are Cochituate residents Gilbert Wolin and Jeff Moran. Estimated cost is $1.13 million.
  • Prohibition of public consumption of marijuana or tetrahydrocannabinol for any purpose, including medical. Lead petitioner is Heidi Heilman, director of Wayland Cares.
  • Appropriation of Community Preservation Act funds for fire alarms and sprinklers at Cochituate Village Apartments. The article is a temporary measure because the Community Preservation Committee has not met to take a position on the request. Lead petitioner is Mary Antes. Estimated cost is $1 million.

Two additional articles reportedly concern public comment at meetings, and land clearing, grading and protection of specimen trees.
