Volunteers wanted to help set up ice rinks

Get your cordless screwdrivers ready – it’s that time of year again! The town just received two new 100’x100′ heavy duty white tarps for use in the construction of the two town recreational ice skating surfaces this year, one on the Cochituate baseball field and a second on the Town Building soccer field.

We’ll need volunteers again this year to help us to set up the support brackets and boards so that all is ready for the DPW to put down the tarps and flood the rinks once the ground freezes. Last year we had a beautiful, sunny day and a great turnout of about 50 folks. I’m hoping we can do the same this year and make this another successful community project!

We plan to convene at about 9am (same as last year) next Saturday, December 15th, to set up the brackets and boards, and any help with getting the word out would be much appreciated. We’ll likely start at Cochituate and move on to Town Building once we’ve finished there. The DPW team will put the tarps down, secure them, and flood the rink later, once the ground is frozen.

Below is a link to some photos of one of the rinks from last year and an article with photos covering the 2011 construction event:

Please do pass this on to anyone who’s up for a fun, community project, and look forward to seeing you next Saturday!
